Ptosis (pronounced “toe-sis”) is another condition that causes the upper lids to fall and cause a “tired” or “aged” appearance.
Unlike “hooded” lids that are caused by excess skin, ptosis is a condition where the entire lid falls and covers the eye. Because of this, the eyes appear “tired” or “small”. Patients often report a constant effort to raise their eyelids, and often complain of fatigue and tension headaches. There are several causes of ptosis or a droopy eyelid, including frequent contact lens wear, aging, and family history. Fortunately, with careful evaluation and diagnosis it is possible to minimize or eliminate ptosis with an outpatient eyelid surgery to repair the problem. Ptosis surgery can take as little as 20 minutes, and oftentimes has minimal downtime (i.e. low to no swelling and bruising).
Dr. Giese is uniquely qualified to address and correct ptosis. To get help for droopy eyelid ptosis, book a consultation with Cosmetic & Reconstructive Eye and Facial Plastic Surgeon Isaiah Giese, M.D. by calling 800-325-3937.
